On day one, you will arrive in Sri Lanka and be warmly welcomed by our representative tour guide at the airport. They will then take you to your hotel in Polonnaruwa, where you can relax and refresh before embarking on your adventure. Polonnaruwa is a beautiful city in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka and served as the country's capital for about 200 years. It's known for its stunning archaeological sites and ancient ruins, making it a great place to begin your journey in Sri Lanka.
On day two, you will explore the magnificent Polonnaruwa Kingdom, which was transferred to Dambadeniya when it was conquered by Indian King Kalinga Magha. During your visit, you can see the archeological museum, royal palace, audience hall, swimming pool, sacred quadrangle, Shiva Devale, Pabalu Vihara, Rankot Vihara, Kiri Vihara, Buddha statue at Lankatilaka, Buddha figures at Gal Vihara, and so much more. With so many incredible sites to be seen, it will take roughly 5-6 hours to visit the entire kingdom in Polonnaruwa. After your visit, you will be driven to Sigiriya.
On day three, you will visit the Eighth Wonder of the World, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which has huge walls, water canals, security guard rooms, natural stoned arches, mirror stones, and world-famous Sigiri paintings. It is an isolated rock kingdom more than 200m in height providing beautiful views. Your second destination is the Dambulla Cave Temple, which is the largest and the best-preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. The caves were converted into a temple complex by King Walagamba during the 1st century. There are about 153 Buddha statues and murals, which cover 2100 square meters. Later, you will travel to Kandy to enjoy some authentic Kandyan dancing in the evening and spend the night in Kandy.
On day four, you will start your day early and head to Knuckles Valley for hiking. During your hike, you will pass tea estates, waterfalls, and panoramic views as you approach the peak. Additionally, you can watch many bird species and animals interact simultaneously. You will spend the night in a jungle camp and enjoy a traditional BBQ for dinner.
After your exciting and unique jungle camping experience, you will begin your descent. Climb downhill through tea plantations, sparkling waterfalls to enjoy (or even take a quick refreshing dip in) as you go. You will be dropped back at your hotel in Kandy in the evening, where you can relax and relish in your Knuckles Valley adventure.
Embark on a cultural adventure as you explore the Temple of the Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the sacred molar tooth of Lord Buddha. Admire the Royal Palace of the last king who ruled Sri Lanka until 1815, and visit the Buddhist and Hindu temples and archaeological museums located within the Maligawa premises. Later, head to the Ambuluwawa Tower, a 48-meter-tall structure situated on an isolated mountain with breathtaking panoramic views. Drive through picturesque waterfalls, high grown tea plantations, and visit renowned tea factories en route to Nuwara Eliya. Spend the night in a hotel of your choice in this charming city.
Embark on a three-hour train journey from Nuwara Eliya (Nanuoya) Railway station to Ella, one of the most iconic scenic train rides in Sri Lanka. Admire the stunning landscapes, old tunnels, waterfalls, and traditional village life as the train passes through verdant hills of tea plantations. Take a leisurely stroll towards the train track and marvel at the Nine Arch Bridge. Spend the night at a hotel of your choice in Ella.
